History of the Charity

The activities of Surrey Fitness Club began in September 2004 at Manor Park grounds in New Malden with just 4 people. Since 2004, new members have joined the club, and the club has grown significantly. The fitness club came to be known as ‘Surrey Fitness Club’ – SFC for short. Regular fitness sessions were held in the park funded on a goodwill basis throughout the year. During the winter of 2008, as members of Surrey Fitness Club began to increase, the classes were moved from the grounds to a hall. A membership charge was levied to cover the expenses of hiring the hall. Any excess of fees received were put towards providing sustainable aid for those in need in the homeland-Sri Lanka.

SFC provided financial support to maintain the livelihoods of those in need by way of, building tube wells, providing provisions to orphanages and financial support for their education.

The club’s charity work grew exponentially as a result of increased contributions due to more members joining the club, this has helped the distribution of aid to the needy in our homeland immensely. The nature of the charity work carried out by SFC, has impressed the members and began to contribute more towards the good charity. Since 2004, SFC has welcomed over 200 members.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, fitness sessions are now being held online via Zoom. More members have since joined, leading to a considerable increase in donations towards the club’s charity work. Surrey Fitness Club has now increased the scope of its work in the homeland significantly. Due to this, club has been registered as a charity in England and Wales under the new title ‘Sri Lankan Family Charity Foundation (SFC Foundation)’, on 23rd  February 2021 and the registered charity number is 119363.
